New Rules for Managing Used Oil in India

The Government of India has enhanced its efforts to manage hazardous waste with updated regulations under the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management & Transboundary Movement) Rules, 2016. The latest update, the Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Second Amendment Rules, 2023, has taken effect on April 1, 2024, introducing Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for used oil. The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) will oversee this important initiative.

What You Need to Know?

Used Oil: Includes engine oil, hydraulic oil, and gear oil, suitable for recycling if it meets certain standards. Who Must Register: Producers, recyclers, importers, and collection agents of used oil.

Registration Categories:-

Producers are divided into nine categories based on their roles, including manufacturers, importers, and sellers of base or lubrication oil.

Key Steps to Register:-

Provide GST and PAN certificates. Submit IEC, CIN, and TIN documents. Include records of sales and purchases.
